Online Apps & Tools

These online programmes make a heap of sense - just curious as to where all the info is stored and who is able to access it, doctor it, abuse it...You know me playing the paranoid, world is out to get you maniac.
Anyway to show faith -I love our wedding day and thought I'd be all syrupy & share it with you. Ok nearly finished Web 2.0

Social Networking sites

"My name is Infamous Rambler. I'm an addict - I have been off Bebo for one week" *polite applause & murmurs of encouragement*

Shouldn't this be the catch cry for the phenomenon that is social networking! You are accesible and connected with your friends & family no matter where you live on this Earth, well maybe not Antartica or the Arctic but bar those popsicle places pratically anywhere on this planet. You can share photos, play games against one another, share quiz results, rant & rave, practically reveal everything about yourself if you choose to through these sites. Or you can make up an entirely different persona.

Where do you draw the line for privacy???

Web 2.0 - where will it take libraries?

Is it me or has Dr Wendy Schultz been watching too many Star Trek episodes? Her model of progression for libraries as Commodity->Product->Service->Experience under Web 2.0 could indicate she has attended one 'Armageddon' convention too many. The advent of the computer and the explosion of the internet and the vast information one has access to from it is amazing. It is the assumption, however that every library has access to this technology which concerns me. I could expand my point but after reading it um, edit! - because is sounded so 'righteous'. Peace! Go the All Blacks!!! Do you think they'll do Kapa o Pango this weekend?

Tagging in Technorati

Fair enough, enter keywords as labels, point of reference for your blog and share them with the world wide web. Jumped into Technorati and entered "Learning 2.0" in advanced search in tags section and found catatonic chick, sweet. Reading what librarians who've gone through this learning intiative have written, it seems there is some controversy towards trying something new. Check out copdogblog's rant. As you can tell I'm scraping for ideas to write about this lesson - so I'll just say When.

Del.icio.us

Ok, is it only me or does Rollyo and Del.icio.us provide similar service? Basically we hitch a ride off previous peoples research and like Bill Gates'steal' and improve it from there. All good. I did find the Librarian Trading Cards amusing. It's funny how some people in libraries take themselves quite seriously. I don't know, maybe with all this knowledge readily available at your libraries and the accummulation of significant knowledge + application of this knowledge = power. Perhaps the responsibilty of being stewards of unimaginable power has weighed down our more jovial personality...
Ahahahaha whatever, man I'm knackered, check out my card below - beat that sucker!

Wiki or not here I come...(lame)

I like feeling 'exclusive'. Honest. I find wiki's aight but tend to think they're too similar to chat forums and stuff. It's hard enough for me to express vocally what I'm thinking; let alone typing a response to a topic I have an opinion about, still I enjoyed reading what other library staff posted as their favourite reading, watching and listening so I have left my mark in the Manukau "Favourite blogs" page as well.

On to the bigger picture. Tri-Nations this Sunday morning, I'm absolutely stoked at the inclusion of Isaia Toeava on the bench for the game. He has huge potential to become one of the most feared attacking backs in world rugby. His most recent outing against Counties (even though Auckland lost meh!) was pure class. Incisive running, great fend and the ability to step off both feet at speed is a superb skill set. Let's hope he has an opportunity to display his athleticism at test level.

Wiki & Wayne Barnes

I know! I know! If there is ever a man so reviled amongst a nation of rugby heads it is Wayne Barnes! Grrrrrrrrr!!!! Ok it's been a year already "Get over it" you might say. Um, no - I'm a vindictive SoB when I see an injustice. So be forewarned - I'm going to vent, rant, attack vehemently and give a right old Barnes-bashing on what should've been the pinnacle of All Black glory last year. And here's where I lead into wiki why read my vitriol when wiki has done it all for me check out the history section on Barnesy. Rearrange the order to "earliest". Caution: explicit language prevalent.
And to top it off this guy will be on the sideline in this weeks crucial Tri-Nations match. Um, how many screwjobs can the ABs take?

Technology anything!!!

I would like to own a PS3, for pure gaming indulgence a Wii as well. My wife could do Wii fitness in the living room while I'm sprawled out in the bedroom playing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, shooting things, anything and blowing a heck of alot of stuff up - although the aim is to achieve mission targets covertly. What the heck, I'm into anarchy KA-BOOM! "Hehehehehe" devilish laughter fills the air. I dislike the fact the PS3 is no longer retrospective, backwards compatible with PS2 & PS1 games. It's a shame when great titles such as God of War won't be viewed in HD glory, more toys for the nephews I guess. The reasoning is the PS3 console would become alot cheaper to manufacture and the excessive purchase price would drop. Whatever. I haven't bought a PS3 I'm with Grease "How low can you go?"
As for GoogleEarth "Big brother is watching you" How scary!!! I know random...

Flickr Mashups!!!

Yeah Baby! I like this application! Oh the photos I could convert into trading cards! Fear me friends! If I have captured one of you in an awkward pose, retained an image of your style challenged childhood or snapped you doing something you shouldn't, welcome to the new card game Remember This.
I am open to bribes and promises of mowing my lawns over the spring season. Threats, violence and sulking will not save you <----------- look at my ratings.
I love this imaginery world!!!
Oh well back to work.

Flickr

Wow, great photos. Some of these images are really well shot and are elaborated upon and analysed technically to the Nth degree. I don't know alot about photography if it gets a reaction out of me then that's as far a gauge as you'll get to what I think of your photo. Having recently suffered a fractured wrist through playing league the following participants in this link share both my heartfelt sympathy as well as my mirth at a point in time well captured.
Got to love soccer.

Know your Rollyo!!!

Haha all the images I uploaded from other websites into my blog have disappeared, I'm assuming it's because I don't have permission to use them. Funny how the net can filter the images out and yet still allow spam into emails or pop ups for adult only sites to appear on my brothers' computer :D
Anyway onto Rollyo I can see the benefits of utilising the site if you're diet conscious and researching macrobiotics, not wanting to trawl page after page in Google when other health conscience people out there have already done the hard yards for you, but hey give me KFC and clogged arteries because if not for Web 2.0 I would've never have known about this site and was completely content within my ignorance.

LibraryThing - Show me what you got!!!

I enjoy using LibraryThing. I think nothing reveals more about ones personality than knowing what type of books they tend to enjoy reading. I use LibraryThing as a tribute to David Gemmell. An absolute master storyteller in the fantasy genre. I know a couple of men who swear by reading Gemmell's books alone they have become better people through the morals and characters they connected with in Gemmells' writing.

Although "critics labelled his work "macho" and would often cite his limited vocabulary and the repetitive nature of his stories. Violent events usually provide the sole impetus for plot development, and are resolved by physical violence or heroics"

I found Gemmells characters had 'soul' dealing with alot of grey areas the reader could relate to. If you enjoy fantasy give DG a go:

Generators & narcissism

Ahahahaha! Me! Me! Me! I! I! I! Feed my ego! Make me a star! No wait - Make me a S U P E R S T A R!!!

Ah generators, you vindicate my parents decision to have me.

At http://www.whatceleb.com/ my birthdate alone indicates that if I 'wanted' to, I could woo Hollywwod beauties such as Milla Jovovich, Charlize Theron, or Pink and they would melt and find we are 90% compatible, 10% incompatibility does not seem too serious an obstacle - it is. Take into account the 10% discrepancy is A) the lack of moolah to book a flight to tinsel town B) the ladies partners and security entourage and C) my wife convulsing on the floor in hysterics over my male fantasies.

Even when I try to define what my problem is at http://rumandmonkey.com/widgets/toys/namegen/11099/ my very name (in honour of my great-uncle), depicts me as "I'm a deeply religious kleptomaniac with a winning smile, and a way with the ladies!" and now my wife's feet are kicking the air a la millipede.

Excuse me while I go get her puffer.

Procrastination & RSS news feeds

As you can tell I'm not keeping to the schedule; hectic school holidays here, throw in a few illnesses there, add a couple of blogs vehemently against Topix.net, Syndic8.com et al, garnish with a sprinkling of laziness and voila PROCRASTINATION.
A time honoured recipe.
After serving customers at desk duty, shelving, t & l, Manix, Maori Language week display, researching Montana book awards, shelving, banking, washing dishes, cleaning out the fridge, shelving, balance petty cash, checking in new books, picking gum off the bottom of seats and shelving - I thought now might be a nice time to jump onto the RSS news feeds and I must admit it wasn't too bad.
Although I love typing in the search function and getting 861 results for 'crows feet' in Technorati; majority of the hits were advertisements for plastic surgery centres and anti wrinkle cream products but thats what I get for trying to be a smart alec, I must admit I still prefer to receive my news from the local paper or the tv. I can only handle propaganda from so many outlets.

RSS feed me!

Okay this took a little longer than I thought - the hardest part was actually finding ten feeds I wanted to subscribe to without revealing too much about myself. Paranoia set in, the fact data 'exists' forever in 'Cyberspace' and this data is able to be extracted/hacked into by any techno-savvy 12 year old entering puberty - I'm concerned a total stranger will strike up a conversation, tick all the same interests box, gains my trust and to my demise is actually a psychotic serial killer - made me a bit wary of completing this task. I'm just playing the Devil's advocate, still just a thought. In the end I got over myself and decided to use the 'Interests' section of my CV as the criteria for selection, with a couple more thrown in for good measure. I'm going to hang out at Skycity, safe from manic 12 year olds.

Whats the point of writing...

Whats the point of writing, when you don't know what to write
I scowl and frown, sit around moaning at my plight
I know I should begin with the or even better once
Instead I stare vapid as impersonate a dunce
Web 2.0 I curse the day you appeared on 'To Do' list
Unrelenting, less forgiving when you have a fractured wrist
Oh wait, hang on is that - yes! Wooohooo I've written 50 words!!!
Ahaha quota complete, I'll throw in random bird
Bugger this no more rhyme! RFID commands my time!

On the way to work I was reading George's Marvellous Medicine. As you can see Roald Dahl left quite the impression. Ramble On!
